Necessity and Invention
The invention of STARway was driven by the identified necessity for small and mid-sized organizations to have hi-tech employee performance management systems just like the Fortune 1000's. Some years ago, our founders saw this need in their work with companies in the United States and Europe and, finding no existing solution, developed STARway.
Application Service Provider
STARway began as a desktop application and became an internet-based service, commonly called an ASP or application service provider, in 2003. Employers, ranging from a public company to a non-profit, from a food equipment manufacturer to a distribution company and from a chamber of commerce to an outdoor education center, now depend daily on STARway to connect their 10 to 1,500 employees to their missions. Implementing Strategy
STARway grew out of our founders' determination to help our clients "beat the odds against strategy execution." Working with organizations to develop competitive strategies and balanced scorecard organizational measurement processes, they were keenly aware of the studies showing that only 1-3 out of 10 organizations beat the odds against actually successfully implementing strategy.
Fortune 1000 Best Practices
At the same time, they knew that the Fortune 1000's were able to create their own customized approaches to defining and communicating employee performance expectations to support strategy. They knew that Fortune 1000's were able to use hi-tech tools to tailor their employment candidate screening and selection to support strategy. And, they knew that Fortune 1000's were able to use multi-rater feedback (sometimes called 360 degree feedback) and individual development plans to support strategy.
Employee Performance Management System
Seeing the necessity for these tools in mid-sized organizations, they organized best practices for hiring the right people, defining performance expectations, assessing performance and creating individual development plans into one, integrated, competency-based employee performance management system. Based in the Cincinnati USA Region (which has more than its share of mid-sized employers due to a diverse industrial economy), STARway serves users in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
